A centuries-old yet timeless art form, Portuguese Azulejos (or tiles) are the muse and canvas of the Tiles collection. Endowed with a unique plasticity, the Azulejo invokes not only colourways or patterns, but also cultures, moments, expressions, and memories. As an object, the Azulejo rises above its primary purpose; it lends itself to proximity, to touch, to sensation, to presence. And, above all, it is more than a relic of days gone – on the contrary, it’s alive. The Azulejo lives on, not just on a souvenir or on the façade, but in the imagination and in the hands of those who regard it as it is – close, contemporary, malleable, present.

To tell the story of Tiles, we couldn’t leave the choice of a narrator to chance. We needed a protagonist to match, someone who, like the Azulejo, had a unique plasticity, a universe of experience in the spotlight and a very special way of living. Margarida Vila-Nova was the natural choice. In fact, it could only have been Margarida. The invitation to Margarida Vila-Nova was a natural one.

An established Portuguese actress, mother, wife, entrepreneur, adventurer – Margarida is more than the sum of all her parts. She lived outside Portugal without ever forgetting her roots, and she has returned with redoubled spirit and that same tender smile. She flew, she saw, she experienced, she tried, and she took us with her. Not only in her thoughts and heart, but also in her routines and rituals. Hence why we invited her to be our narrator – to get to know her vision, her sensory experiences with our scented objects. And Margarida has agreed to share all of this over the next few months and more with us and with you.
